Known Donor Counselling
The Process
If you are undertaking donor treatment using gametes donated by someone who is known to you, the mandatory donor counselling process involves three counselling appointments. These include one 1-hour session for the donor (and partner if applicable), one 1-hour session for the recipient(s) (and partner if applicable), and a joint 2-hour session involving all parties to the donation
As per ANZICA (Australian and New Zealand Infertility Counsellors’ Association) requirements, the joint session will be scheduled at least two weeks after the completion of the individual donor and recipient counselling sessions. Further counselling sessions may be necessary if any party requests this, or at the discretion of the counsellor where issues may still require addressing.
At the completion of counselling, your counsellor will prepare a report for your treating clinic. This report will not be provided until the completion of the full counselling process, including any additional sessions required to fulfil the counselling requirements, and until full payment has been received. This report can also be provided to you at your request.
